Gabions is located on the edge of the Au Sable River and miles from society. The way that our group has done this trip has been to get parking permit from Alcona Canoe Rental & Campground which is located at Bamfield and Au Sable Road. Gabions is a Nation Forest Campground so the only cost to camping there is your parking permit. The permits are usually like a dollar a day or five for a week. If you call Alcona Canoe Rental & Campground they could give you exact rates.
Now this is a situation where you are roughing it for the most part so be prepared to make sacrifices to your normal life. Gabions does have a slightly new cider block out house with toilet paper that stinks really bad.
If a shower is a must you can go back to the canoe rental place (about 7 miles) and purchase tokens to use there showers. They have always allowed us to use there facility and we have always been thankful for it.
